Moving ports tree between machines
Posted on October 4, 2006 - Filed Under FreeBSD
I’m using FreeBSD on many servers dedicated mostly to network management and monitoring. Due to many restrictions I often need to move ports updates as an tgz archive. I’ve learned that You should delete old ports tree before unpacking new one. Otherwise You will encounter errors like => Patch patch-eval.c failed to apply cleanly.. Old patches still sit in ports tree and unpacking tar archive not always overwrites them (like patch list for particular ports gets shorter in current port tree).
