I’ve complained several times about troubles debugging rails on this blog. But maybe it will come some breakthrough. I did not tested it, but it looks very promising.
First, You should know what DTrace is. It is very powerful, yet with low impact on running system debugging and profiling tool available for Solaris. More You can read on DTtrace community site: www.opensolaris.org/os/community/dtrace. According to blog written by Bryan Cantrill, one of DTrace core developers, now is possible to use DTrace examine Ruby (on Rails also) programs. Go read on http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/bmc/20060501.
But this is useful only to Solaris users? No, or rather finally not only to Solaris user. DTrace port on FreeBSD is in advanced stage, and according to users opinion – very useful already. Read details also on Bryan’s blog: blogs.sun.com/roller/page/bmc/20060525.
I definitely need to try DTrace on FreeBSD, once again it looks like FreeBSD will rock :))
